Bruce Schneggenburger Obituary Death – The fatalities of a married couple who were travelling in the same vehicle as the one that was involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle in Ashe County have been confirmed by the local law enforcement there as a result of the accident. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol reports that the collision took place on US-221 just before 2:30 in the afternoon, not too far from Woodstown Road.
On US 221, a head-on incident happened when a 2011 GMC Canyon moving south crossed the median and collided with a 2022 Honda CRV travelling north. Both vehicles were travelling southbound. The fact that it was pouring heavily with rain at the time of the collision made the severity of the tragedy even worse. Nicholas Thomas Sponholz, who is now 21 years old, was the driver of the Toyota Camry when it was involved in the accident. In spite of the fact that he had sustained moderate wounds, he was not sent to a medical facility in order to be treated for them.
Unfortunately, Bruce Louis Schneggenburger, age 56, and Stephanie Ann Schneggenburger, age 55, who were travelling in the CRV at the time of the collision, both passed away as a result of the injuries they incurred in the collision. Because of the investigation that needed to take place there, a portion of US-221 had to be shut down, which resulted in a delay of around two hours for motorists and pedestrians. Sponholz was taken into custody and charged with failing to maintain lane control as well as two counts of careless driving that resulted in the death of another person.
