Cathy Russi Obituary Death – To all those who call Colchester home: We would like to express our deepest condolences to you on the loss of Cathy Russi, who served as the previous Director of the Colchester older Centre and was a devoted advocate for the older citizens in our town.
Beginning in January 1979 and continuing until her retirement in October 2008, Cathy Russi oversaw the operations of the Colchester Senior Centre as its Director. Even though she was officially retired, her love and commitment to our elderly community members never wavered. Our community acknowledges the significant contribution she made in laying the groundwork for senior services. Patty Watts, who serves as the director of our Senior Centre at the moment, is dedicated to continuing to build upon that history.
Cathy’s hope was that she would be able to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for the new senior centre when it was finally built. I am grateful to have been able to share that moment of significance with her. The Board of Selectmen is going to hold a vote on a petition that was driven entirely by members of the community, demanding that a room in the new senior centre be named after her.
If four of the five members of the Board of Selectmen agree to the request, it will be submitted to a vote in front of the entire town as part of an upcoming referendum. I will be voting yes, and I urge the other members of the Board to join me in doing so in order to properly honor her memory. Cathy will be lovingly remembered for her persistent lobbying, her passion, and the long-lasting impact she has had and will continue to have on Colchester Senior Services. Most significantly, she will be remembered as having a gentle spirit, and many of us will be grateful to have had the opportunity to call her a friend.
I pray that she is at peace with all the angels in heaven.
