John Janty Obituary, Death – We want to express our deepest condolences to John Janty’s family and friends as we send along the news that he passed away on June 17 at Elkhart Lake. John was a longstanding mathematics instructor and leader.
Before John’s retirement in 2008, he spent twenty-seven of those years as the District Mathematics Coordinator in addition to teaching mathematics at Waunakee High School for the previous thirty-four years. He served as President of the WMC from 1998 to 1999 after being an active member of the WMC Board of Directors for a significant number of years.
John played a vital role in the establishment of the Wisconsin Mathematics Education Foundation (WMEF), and he was elected to serve as the organization’s first Chair. The Wisconsin Mathematics Education Foundation (WMEF) was able to generate tens of thousands of dollars because of his direction and leadership of the organization.
Both the WMC and the WMEF are stronger now as a direct result of John’s guidance, which he provided via his leadership, dedication, and vision for the future of both organizations. In 1994, John was presented with the Distinguished Mathematics Educator award, the Wisconsin Mathematics Council’s highest distinction.
For his contributions to the field of mathematics education. The Wisconsin Mathematics Council would like to extend its deepest condolences to Susan, John’s wife, as well as to Brian, the couple’s son. The influence that John had was significant, and he will be missed by a lot of people.
