John O. Reed Obituary, Formal Staff of Georgia Department of Natural Resource Has Died

John O. Reed Obituary Death -Following a brief illness, John O. Reed, 64, of Savannah, Georgia, passed away on July 20, 2023 at Candler St. Joseph Hospital. Serving the family and friends of Mr. Reed, who died away peacefully at the hospital, is an honor for Fox & Weeks.

He was the beloved son of Barbara Dawn Smith Reed, who lived in Rome, Georgia, and the late James O. Reed. After completing his education at Rome, Georgia’s Darlington School, John enlisted in the US Navy. He had the opportunity to see the world while serving his country while in the military. After finishing his military service, he continued on to pursue degrees from Temple University and the State University of New York at Albany. In 1992, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Geography from Temple University.

John’s most recent employer was Visit Savannah, where he worked as the operations manager for visitor center operations. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout thanks to his passion for the outdoors and his years of expertise, two qualities that helped him in his prior position as an Interpretive Park Ranger with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources at Fort Morris State Historic Site.

Early in the 1990s, John moved to Savannah and got a job with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Department of Family and Children Services. He was able to do this through serving as a board liaison for the Youth Futures Authority, Girls and Boys Club of Savannah, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Homeless Authority of Savannah, among other organizations. He was also able to assist with feeding the city’s homeless population. You’re welcome to offer condolences, light a candle in memory of John.
