According to the Crash Log that is kept by the Kansas Highway Patrol, emergency services were sent to the area that is bounded by I-35 and Santa Fe Street in the early hours of August 12 after receiving reports of a hit-and-run collision that included a car and a pedestrian. The crash was said to have occurred early in the morning. Santa Fe Street is located to the west of I-35. According to reports, the collision took place in the wee hours of that particular day’s morning.
It was the responsibility of the Kansas Highway Patrol to ensure that the Crash Log was kept up to date. The Crash Log indicates that the pedestrian who was involved in the accident did not get any injuries as a result of the collision that they were involved in. According to the findings of the rescue workers who arrived to the site, 27-year-old Maxwell M. Pozek, who was from Lenexa, was walking along the interstate in the direction of the southbound lanes when he was struck by a commercial motor vehicle that has not yet been identified.
Pozek was taken to the hospital where he later passed away. Pozek was a native of the city of Lenexa in Kansas. The operator of the commercial truck did not bring the vehicle to a complete halt before setting out on his voyage; rather, he started it off and then proceeded on with his journey. After it was reported that Pozek had been shot, the lifeless body of Pozek was recovered at the scene of the event where he had been shot, which the Kentucky Highway Patrol (KHP) stated was the location where he had been shot.
