Richard’s beloved wife survives him, holding close to the treasured moments they shared. Richard’s indomitable spirit lives on through the lives he touched, including his dear brother, Kenneth Poortinga.
A devoted father and grandfather, Richard is survived by his four sons: James (Rebecca) Poortinga, Brent (Jennifer) Poortinga, Eric (Shannon) Poortinga, and Ryan (Kelly) Poortinga. His legacy shines brightly through his eight adored grandchildren, who were recipients of his boundless love and wisdom.

In a testament to his adventurous spirit, Richard embraced scuba diving later in life, seizing the opportunity to explore the depths of Mexico’s underwater wonders during a vacation. To honor and celebrate the life of Richard Poortinga, a Celebration of Life memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023, at 3:00 p.m. at Crestview Baptist Church, Georgetown, Texas.
