On Saturday, August 12th, 2023, Sgt. Herte’s valiant battle with cancer came to an end, leaving behind a legacy of honor, dedication, and unwavering commitment. Sgt. Herte’s journey in law enforcement began in 1987 when he joined the ranks of the Medina County Sheriff’s Office. Throughout his distinguished career, he displayed exceptional leadership, dedication, and a profound sense of duty.
His commitment to the betterment of his community led him to rise through the ranks, ultimately achieving the position of Sergeant. As the SWAT Commander, he demonstrated remarkable courage and resilience in the face of challenges. After his retirement from the Medina County Sheriff’s Office on August 30, 2013, Sgt. Herte’s passion for serving others persisted.
He continued to contribute to the field of law enforcement, bringing his expertise to the Village of Lodi Police Department and later, the Westfield Companies Security Department. His commitment to his fellow officers and the communities he served remained unwavering. Sgt. Herte’s dedication extended beyond his professional life.
Prior to his service in law enforcement, he served as an MP in the Army, showcasing his commitment to safeguarding others and upholding justice. His selfless service in the military was a testament to his character and his innate desire to make the world a better place. Sgt. Herte’s impact on the Medina County Sheriff’s Office and the community it serves is immeasurable. He was not only a skilled law enforcement officer but a beloved member of the agency’s family.
